PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:

Heartwood and sapwood are not differentiated, being straw to pale cream in colour. Texture is intermediate. The timber is generally straight grained and fissile, although slightly interlocked grain can occur.

Air-dry density is 480kg/m3. Shrinkage is low.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES:

Strength group S5 (green), SD6 (seasoned)

WORKING PROPERTIES

Kauvula saws and machines easily in both the green and dry condition. Machined surfaces are generally very good, although slight chipping may occur on surfaces machined against the grain. Air-dry material is easy to bore and turn. Although turned surfaces are slightly fibrous, they can be easily sanded to an excellent finish. Gluing, nailing and screwing properties are very satisfactory and the grain requires only light filling. The natural pale colour enables a wide range of stains to be used effectively.
